Immigration Guidelines: Fees and Work.

At Britton and Time Solicitors, we recognise each client’s unique circumstances and requirements and tailor our services to meet your specific needs whilst maintaining complete transparency regarding our fee structure and service delivery.

We are committed to providing clarity about our charges and ensuring you receive exceptional legal services at competitive rates. Our approach acknowledges that every client has distinct pressures, priorities, and preferences that must be carefully considered when structuring our professional relationship.

The foundation of our fee arrangement begins with an assessment of your case, including all relevant issues, complexities, timeframes, and constraints. Beyond understanding the technical requirements, we take time to understand your personal circumstances and preferences to establish a fee structure that provides you with confidence and control.

We provide detailed information about all costs and disbursements and the scope of work for your matter at the outset, clearly outlined in our Client Care Agreement. This ensures complete transparency and allows you to make informed decisions about your legal representation from the very beginning.

Fixed and capped fee quotations.

Where it is feasible and the scope of work on a matter is unlikely to change, we may offer fixed or capped fees. Fixed fees are a set price that you pay, while a fee cap means you are charged on an hourly basis up to a maximum amount.

Not all matters are suited to fixed or capped fees and we reserve our right to provide such fee arrangements where appropriate.

How our fixed and capped fees are calculated.

Our fees are calculated from the hourly rate of the individuals working on a matter and the time we estimate it will take for a matter to be completed. An individual can include the Solicitor overseeing a matter and any Trainees, Paralegals or administrative staff assisting them.

All fee quotes on this page are for our professional fees and VAT, while any disbursements (third party costs, such as Home Office application fees) are set out within your Client Care Agreement. Home Office application fees are subject to change by the government at any moment and, in rare cases, may change.

In some circumstances, we may require you to attend an initial consultation so we can provide you with an accurate quote. As of October 2025, our initial consultation fee is £200 plus VAT, however this may be reviewed without notice.

As of 1 April 2025, our hourly rates are:

Managing Director – £550 plus VAT

Directors – £360 plus VAT

Legal Director – £340 plus VAT

Senior Associate – £330 plus VAT

Associate – £315 plus VAT

Solicitors – £305 plus VAT

Trainee Solicitor / Senior Paralegal – £215 plus VAT

Paralegal – £200 plus VAT

Administration – £180 plus VAT

Additional fees may be incurred at the hourly rate of the solicitor working on your matter if the scope of your matter changes. These additional fees will always be agreed with you in advance and will not be incurred without your consent.

Please note that our fee quotes below are for the main applicant only. Any fees for applications, including dependants, will vary, depending upon the complexity of the application.

We do not provide legal aid, pro bono or ‘no win no fee’ immigration services. We currently offer advice on asylum cases and humanitarian immigration matters on a privately-funded basis only.

Scope of work and timelines.

Our fee quotes generally include the following:

  1. Meeting with you in person or virtually to take initial instructions and advising on your legal options.
  2. Advising you in detail on the evidential and procedural requirements of your application.
  3. Reviewing your evidence in detail.
  4. Completing and submitting your application form.
  5. Drafting any supporting documentation needed for your application.
  6. Providing a legal covering letter, and making any factual and legal representations necessary for your application.
  7. Booking your biometrics appointment.
  8. Where applicable, creating an electronic or hard-copy bundle of documents.
  9. Informing you of the outcome of your application and advising on any resulting questions.

The different stages of most applications are as set out as above. However, each case is different, and there may be other steps involved that we would advise on at the outset of your case.

The timeline for our taking your instructions to submission of your application will vary according to how quickly you are able to provide the necessary evidence and when you wish to enter the UK or the expiry of your current visa. You can find the up to date Home Office visa processing times via the government website.

Please note: Home Office application processing times can vary throughout the year, often with no indication provided by the Home Office. Applications may be processed from between 24 hours to 6 months or more. We will provide you with our best estimate based on the facts of your case and in line with recent processing times for similar applications.

What is not included in the below fee estimates?

The following items are not included within our immigration fee estimates below:

  • Any work after the application has been submitted, with the exception of advising on the outcome of said application.
  • Advice on any follow-up immigration applications, appeals, administrative reviews, reconsiderations, reviews, requests or any other steps that are required after an application is approved. This does not include areas where this work is required, such as ‘immigration appeals’ or ‘administrative reviews.’
  • Work that resides outside of the agreed scope of work within your Client Care Agreement.
  • Work that is unrelated to UK immigration law, advice and services.
  • Visa application fees or other disbursements made payable to bodies such as the Home Office or the UK Government.
  • Work carried out by external parties outside of our firm.
  • Instructing third parties, such as barristers, other solicitors, advisors, and others.
  • Translation and interpretation fees that are incurred.
  • Expenses we incur by acting on your behalf, including, but not limited to, disbursements, non-standard postal fees, transport costs and charges for electronic transfers of funds.

For innovator and start up visas, please note that we cannot advise on the merits of your business case; this should be completed by your endorsing body.

Disbursements.

Disbursements are costs incurred outside of our professional fees. They are usually for third-party services such as translations or application costs required by the Government.

We will outline any disbursements applicable to your matter in the Client Care Agreement.

For up-to-date application costs set by the Government, please see the UK visa fees page on their website.
