At Britton and Time Solicitors, we provide clear and transparent pricing so you know exactly where you stand.

Immigration Guidelines: Fees and Work.

At Britton & Time Solicitors, we recognise that each client presents unique circumstances and requirements. Rather than adopting a standardised approach, we tailor our services to meet your specific needs whilst maintaining complete transparency regarding our fee structure and service delivery.

We are committed to providing clarity about our charges and ensuring you receive exceptional legal services at competitive rates. Our approach acknowledges that every client has distinct pressures, priorities, and preferences that must be carefully considered when structuring our professional relationship.

The foundation of our fee arrangement begins with an assessment of your case, including all relevant issues, complexities, timeframes, and constraints. Beyond understanding the technical requirements, we take time to understand your personal circumstances and preferences to establish a fee structure that provides you with confidence and control.

We provide detailed information about all costs and disbursements for your matter at the outset, clearly outlined in our Client Care Agreement. This ensures complete transparency and allows you to make informed decisions about your legal representation from the very beginning.

Fixed & capped fee quotations.

Where it is feasible, and the terms of reference based on the “scope of work” is unlikely to change, we will offer fixed fees.

We are also happy to discuss “capped” fees; this is where it is not so easy to confirm the terms of reference but is a means by which the client is assured that the fee won’t be more than a certain figure, the “capped” fee, but that in the event that it takes us less time to achieve the results required, the client will be charged at the lower fee, equating to time spent rather than the higher fee.

How our fixed & capped fees are calculated.

The basis of all our quotes is the charge out rate per hour for each team member, which is based on their individual expertise, experience and aptitude.

In some circumstances, we may require you to attend an initial consultation in order for us to collect enough details of your matter to accurately quote. Our initial consultation fee is £200 plus VAT, which you must pay upfront. If you instruct us, we will deduct this amount from your final bill.

Our Director, Sophie Campbell-Adams, will incur the highest hourly rate at £400 plus VAT, with Mitchell Potter, our specialist Immigration Solicitor being £320 plus VAT. Paralegals and Trainee Solicitors who provide support work on your case will be charged at a rate of £200 plus VAT.

Where the work involved falls outside of the guidance set out, additional fees may be incurred at the hourly rate of the solicitor working on your matter. These additional fees will always be agreed with you in advance.

Please note that our fee quotes below are for the main applicant only. Any fees for applications, including dependants will vary, depending upon the complexity of the application.

We do not provide legal aid, pro bono or ‘no win no fee’ immigration services. We currently offer advice on asylum cases and humanitarian immigration matters, subject to these being privately funded.

Scope of work & timelines.

We provide an attentive and bespoke service throughout each application we deal with.  The work that we undertake for each application for which the fees are quoted will include the following:

  1. Meeting with you in person or virtually to take initial instructions and advising on the best way forward.
  2. Advising you in detail on the evidential and procedural requirements of your application.
  3. Reviewing your evidence in detail.
  4. Completing and submitting the application form.
  5. Drafting any supporting documentation needed for the application.
  6. Providing a legal covering letter, making any factual and legal representations necessary for the application.
  7. Booking your Biometrics appointment.
  8. Where applicable, creating the ‘Electronic bundle’ and creating a hard copy bundle.
  9. Informing you of the outcome of your application and advising on any resulting questions.

The different stages of most applications are as set out as above. However, each case is different, and there may be other steps involved that we would advise on at the outset of your case.

The timeline for our taking your instructions to submission of your application will vary according to how quickly you are able to provide the necessary evidence and when you wish to enter the UK or the expiry of your current Visa. You can find the up to date Home Office visa processing times via the government website.

Please note: The Home Office processing times are not in our hands and can vary depending on the service you opt for through the Home Office. Applications may be processed from between 24 hours to 6 months or more. We will provide you with our best estimate based on the facts of your case.

What is not included in our fee estimates?

The following services are not included within the scope of our immigration offering:

            • Any work after the application has been submitted, aside from advising on the outcome of said application.
            • Advice on any follow-up immigration applications, appeals, administrative reviews, reconsiderations, reviews, requests or any other steps that are required after an application is approved. This does not include areas where this work is required, such as ‘immigration appeals’ or ‘administrative reviews.’
            • Work that resides outside of our outlined immigration work/advice, as agreed upon before instructing.
            • Work that is unrelated to UK immigration law, advice and services.
            • Visa application fees or other disbursements made payable to bodies such as the Home Office or the UK Government.
            • Work carried out by external parties outside of our firm.
            • Instructing a third party, such as a barrister, another solicitor, advisor, etc. This excludes us liaising with a barrister for work such as ‘immigration appeals.’
            • Translation and interpretation fees that are incurred, or which may be extra to the application.
            • Costs or disbursements we incur by acting on your behalf. This includes third party fees, non-standard postal fees, transport costs and charges for electronic transfer of funds.

For innovator and start up visas, please note that we cannot advise on the strength of your business case; this should be completed by your endorsing body.

            Fee ranges.

As a specialist legal provider, we are now required to publish our average fee ranges as well as the applicable disbursements (including Home Office fees and other charges payable to third parties). However, as a firm, we offer bespoke quotes and as each case is unique and your individual application may result in lower or higher fees than those listed below. For our current fee ranges, please see our individual services below.

            Disbursements.

Disbursements are costs incurred outside of our professional fees. They are usually for third-party services such as translations or application costs required by the Government.

We will outline any disbursements applicable to your matter in the Client Care Agreement.

For up-to-date application costs set by the Government, please see the UK visa fees page on their website.
